EBONY PARK SHUTDOWN OVER WATER CRISIS

On the morning of Tuesday, 09 September 2025, Ebony Park came to a standstill as residents took to the streets in a shutdown protest. Motorists struggled to get out of the area for work and school, while roads, schools, and shops were closed.
The protest, unfolding in Ward 111, comes after weeks of inconsistent water supply. Residents say they have reached a breaking point, being billed monthly yet denied access to clean water — a basic human necessity.
Frustrated and exhausted, the community has decided to voice its anger and disappointment at the government’s continued failure to address their cries for help. Families have been left unable to cook, clean, or maintain proper hygiene, intensifying the outrage.
We stand firmly with the people of Ebony Park.
We call on Johannesburg Water and the City of Johannesburg to urgently provide a permanent solution to end this unacceptable water crisis.
Access to clean water is not a privilege — it is a constitutional right. The people of Ebony Park cannot and will not continue to suffer while paying for a service that is not delivered.
This is a matter of urgency. Water must be restored without further delay.
