JOHANNESBURG WATER SHUTS RESERVOIR OUTLET UNTIL LEVELS RECOVER

Water Crisis Deepens: President Park Reservoir Still Critically Low, Supply Remains Restricted
The water crisis in KAE and the Greater Ivory Park areas shows no sign of easing, with Johannesburg Water confirming today that the President Park Reservoir remains under severe strain and at critically low levels.
According to the utility, the combination of increased demand, reduced supply, and infrastructure challenges continues to place heavy pressure on the system.
As a result, water supply in Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, and Ivory Park remains unstable, with many taps running dry for weeks.
Reservoir Still Closed
Johannesburg Water says the reservoir outlet will remain closed until levels recover to a satisfactory threshold. Only then will normal supply be restored.
Alternative Supply Measures
To mitigate the crisis, Johannesburg Water has committed to:
• Deploying stationary water tanks in affected areas, based on lists provided by Ward Councillors.
• Responding to bursts and leaks as a priority to preserve what little water is available.
Residents Urged to Save Water
The utility once again appealed to residents in lower-lying areas who still have access to some water to use it sparingly, so as to relieve pressure on higher-lying areas, which are hardest hit.
Ongoing Frustration
This announcement comes a week after widespread protests erupted in Ebony Park, Ivory Park, and Kaalfontein, where residents demanded a permanent solution instead of temporary tankers.
Johannesburg Water has promised further updates as the situation evolves or if additional interventions are introduced.
For now, residents remain without clarity on when water will reliably flow through their taps again.
