South Africa’s latest crime statistics, covering April to June 2026, were released on Friday by Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia.

While the national figures showed improvements in several serious crime categories, the picture closer to home remains concerning.

Nationally, murder declined and several major robbery categories, including carjacking, business robbery, residential robbery and cash-in-transit robbery, recorded decreases.

But when we bring the numbers closer to home, the picture becomes more scary.

IVORY PARK: 1,827 REPORTED CRIMES

Ivory Park Police Station, which protects and serves Ivory Park, Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park and Duduza does not just feature in the province’s crime rankings. In category after category, it sits at the very top.

Goniwe is number one in Gauteng for murder, rape and more.

According to SAPS’s top-30 national station rankings, Ivory Park is currently ranked first in Gauteng for:

  • Murder (43 people killed)
  • Rape (46 reported cases)

Contact crime – crimes against the person

Ivory Park was number 2 provincially and number 10 nationally. It was only followed by Tembisa at number 1 in Gauteng.

TRIO crimes (carjacking and residential and non-residential robbery combined)

Ivory Park reported 110 cases. It is Number 1 in the province and number 3 in South Africa.

Carjacking Number 1 in Gauteng

Carjacking is up 36% year-on-year, cementing Ivory Park’s position as the worst-affected station in the entire province for this crime. For residents, that means the walk to a taxi rank, the drive home from work or a car parked outside a shopping centre in Kaalfontein or Ebony Park carries a higher risk today than it did a year ago.

Alongside these, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles climbed sharply, kidnapping also rose by 22%.

Residents across KAE are not imagining it when they say their neighbourhoods feel less safe than they did a year ago. The SAPS has now confirmed it in black and white.

KAE News will continue to track these statistics every quarter and we call on SAPS provincial leadership to respond publicly to this data not with reassurances but with a concrete plan.

The numbers are in. They should concern us all.
