HEALTH SERVICES CONTINUE AT TEMBISA HOSPITAL DESPITE SECOND FIRE

The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that health services are continuing at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital, despite a second fire that broke out earlier today at the main Out Patient Department (OPD).

According to Deputy Health Minister Dr. Joe Phaahla, no injuries were reported, and fire crews swiftly contained the blaze using Positive Pressure Ventilation. The OPD had already been cordoned off and was not operational due to Saturday’s earlier fire in the Accident and Emergency Unit.

While smoke spread to the Eye Clinic and Pharmacy, patients were not present in the affected areas. Cleanup and air quality assessments are underway to reopen impacted departments.

The hospital remains on ambulance divert for emergencies, but walk-in patients can still be assisted. Residents are urged to visit local clinics first and only come to the hospital if referred.

Visiting hours remain from 14:00 to 16:00 via gate 4. The public is encouraged to remain calm as investigations into both fires continue.
