ANOTHER FIRE BREAKS OUT AT TEMBISA HOSPITAL

A second fire erupted at the Tembisa Tertiary Hospital on Wednesday morning, just days after the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit was damaged by a fire over the Easter weekend.

This fire occurred at the hospital’s Out Patient Department (OPD), which is located adjacent to the previously affected Emergency Unit.

According to Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) spokesperson Motalatale Modiba, firefighters from the City of Ekurhuleni Fire Department are currently on the scene working to contain the fire. The full extent of the damage is yet to be confirmed.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing. Hospital staff managed to safely evacuate patients from the affected unit.

This second incident has raised growing concerns about the safety and security of one of Gauteng’s busiest public hospitals. The Gauteng Department of Health is expected to release further updates once more information becomes available.
