MASHABA TAKES JOBURG MAYORAL CAMPAIGN TO KAALFONTEIN
ActionSA Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba was in Kaalfontein on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, as part of a door-to-door campaign and community engagement in Ward 92 ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Mashaba conducted a door-to-door operation in the ward before attending a block meeting in Kaalfontein.mas
During the campaign, Mashaba came across what he described as a massive hole dug by a contractor who, according to the candidate, had left the site without completing the work.
Mashaba used the incident to criticise what he described as a lack of accountability in the management of municipal contractors.
“This is the ANC-led government in action: contractors are allowed to dig up communities, walk away from unfinished work, and leave residents to live with the danger. No accountability. No consequences. Just another broken promise at the expense of ordinary South Africans.”
KAE News could not independently establish the identity of the contractor or the circumstances surrounding the unfinished work at the time of publication.
Speaking to residents, Mashaba said he wants to restore Johannesburg’s position as South Africa’s economic hub, describing his return to the city’s political contest as “unfinished business.”
Mashaba previously served as Executive Mayor of Johannesburg from 2016 to 2019, before resigning from the position in October 2019.
