MEC CHILOANE CONCERNED AFTER IVORY PARK TEACHER ARRESTED OVER RAPE ALLEGATIONS
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed concern after a 37-year-old Ivory Park Secondary School teacher was arrested over alleged rape of a Grade 12 learner.
Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane has expressed deep concern following the arrest of a 37-year-old Mathematics educator from Ivory Park Secondary School in connection with the alleged rape of a Grade 12 learner.
The educator was arrested on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, after police tracked him down in Birchleigh North. According to authorities, the suspect had allegedly been absent from school earlier this week while attempting to evade police.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), the alleged incident is believed to have occurred in December 2025, when the learner was still in Grade 11.
Preliminary information indicates that the educator had allegedly been offering the learner private tutoring sessions outside official school hours at his residence, where the alleged incident is said to have taken place.
The matter only came to light recently after the learner’s mother formally reported the incident to the school principal on Monday, 2 March 2026.
It is further alleged that the learner had previously attempted to report the matter at the school after experiencing continued inappropriate behaviour from the educator.
The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that it has initiated internal processes to deal with the serious allegations.
The department also said it is in contact with the learner’s family and will provide therapeutic and counselling support to the learner and her parents during this difficult time.
MEC Chiloane said the department is deeply disturbed by the allegations.
“As the Department, we are deeply disturbed by these allegations against an educator who is entrusted with the care and development of our learners. Educators must always contribute towards ensuring the safety, wellbeing and development of our learners at all times.”
He added that while the allegations will need to be tested in court, the department takes such matters extremely seriously and will ensure that all internal disciplinary processes are followed.
The accused educator is expected to appear in court soon, while investigations continue.
