In a major breakthrough, SAPS officers, working together with Midrand Business Watch security personnel, have arrested one of the suspects believed to be behind the brutal killing of Mr. Lefa Matemane, Treasurer of the Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA).

Matemane was gunned down in a hail of bullets on Wednesday, 04 June 2025, at the Shell Garage on New Road in Midrand. The cold-blooded killing sent shockwaves through the taxi industry and local community, just two weeks after he was re-elected as part of the new IPTA Executive during the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Gallagher Convention Centre.

Police confirmed that the suspect was apprehended swiftly following collaborative intelligence efforts between local law enforcement and private security networks. A manhunt is still underway for additional suspects believed to have been involved in the ambush.

The motive behind the murder remains under investigation, with authorities not ruling out the possibility of internal taxi industry conflict or organised crime involvement.

KAE News will continue to provide updates as the investigation unfolds.

🕯️ We once again extend our heartfelt condolences to the Matemane family and the entire IPTA leadership.
