OPERATION SHANELA THE RETURN IN TEMBISA

In a powerful show of force and commitment to community safety, the Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, led a successful high-density multidisciplinary police operation called #OperationShanela2 in the Tembisa policing precinct on the night of Saturday, 12 July 2025.

The operation, conducted under the Ekurhuleni District, forms part of SAPS’s broader strategy to clamp down on crime and restore order in hotspot areas. It included roadblocks, compliance inspections, and targeted raids.

Key Highlights from the Operation:

● 10+ undocumented persons apprehended at roadblocks
● 16 motorists arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol
● 2 VW Polo vehicles impounded due to tampered engine numbers
● 1 unlicensed firearm recovered
● 3 suspects arrested for drug dealing
● 734 suspects arrested overnight by provincial detectives
● 155 of these suspects were charged for crimes against women and children
● 6 liquor outlets shut down for non-compliance

The SAPS has reiterated its commitment to Police Visibility and Fighting Crime in communities such as Tembisa, ensuring that operations like Shanela continue to target criminal elements and bring them to justice.
