CIT HEIST AT MODDERFONTEIN ROAD NEAR PHOMOLONG
A cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery shook residents of the Phomolong qarea on the morning of Monday, 05 May 2025, when criminals targeted a Fidelity CIT van.
The incident occurred at approximately 08:10 AM along Modderfontein Road, just outside the township.
According to eyewitness reports, a group of armed suspects ambushed the CIT van before using explosives to bomb the vehicle.
The loud explosion could be heard from nearby homes and businesses, sending shockwaves through the community.
Thanks to a swift response, Fidelity backup teams and the Rabie Ridge SAPS arrived at the scene in less than 10 minutes. A helicopter was also used. By that time, the suspects had already fled the scene. It remains unclear whether any cash was successfully stolen during the attack.
This brazen robbery comes less than two months after a similar CIT incident rocked Rabie Ridge on 17 March 2025, raising serious concerns about the rising trend of organized CIT attacks in the area.
Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the identification or arrest of the suspects to come forward.
No injuries have been reported.qqq
