Johannesburg Water has announced that starting Friday, 26 September 2025, the President Park Reservoir will undergo daily night-time closures as part of efforts to stabilise the strained water system.

The reservoir, which supplies the Kaalfontein, Ebony Park and Ivory Park areas, has been under severe strain due to increased demand, reduced supply, and infrastructure constraints, leaving it at critically low levels.

What Abahlali Need to Know:

  • On Thursday, 25 September, the reservoir outlet was closed at 10:00 and will only reopen on Friday, 26 September at 04:00.
  • From 26 September onwards, the reservoir will be closed daily from 20:00 (8PM) to 06:00 (6AM) until further notice.
  • Johannesburg Water will continue monitoring the situation and implementing interventions to support recovery.

Johannesburg Water Appeals to Residents:
• Use water sparingly, especially in lower-lying areas, to support communities in higher-lying areas who may be more severely affected.
• Report any bursts or leaks immediately, as repairs will be prioritised.
• Cooperate in reducing water consumption during this critical period.

Johannesburg Water has assured residents that further updates will be communicated should operational changes be required.
