Just days after road repairs were carried out in Ebony Park, potholes have already reappeared on Fuchia Street, raising questions about the durability of the patching work.
EBONY PARK — Just days after road repairs were carried out in Ebony Park, KAE News returned to the site and found that most of the potholes have already reappeared at Fuchia Street.
On Tuesday, 03 March 2026, Ward 111 Councillor Priscilla Supe brought in the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to patch potholes at BlueCurrent Street and Fuchia Street near Ebony Park Primary School following complaints from the community.
The repairs formed part of a broader service delivery intervention in Ebony Park, where municipal entities were deployed to address infrastructure concerns raised by residents.
However, when KAE News revisited the area on Friday, less than a week later, the results were disappointing.
The patches appear to have washed away after the rain, and in several spots the road looks almost the same as it did before the repairs were carried out — if not worse.
In some sections, the potholes are again clearly visible, making it difficult to see where road repairs had been completed just days earlier.
The situation raises questions about the effectiveness and durability of pothole patching, especially when repairs fail within a matter of days.
How much public money is being spent on pothole patching that does not last even a week?
Pothole patching is commonly used as a short-term solution to damaged roads, but when repairs deteriorate quickly, it raises concerns about whether the method is effective or simply creating a cycle where the same potholes must be repaired repeatedly.
For motorists who use the road daily, the problem remains unresolved.
KAE News will seek clarity from the Johannesburg Roads Agency on whether a more long-term solution will be implemented to address the deteriorating road conditions in the area.
