IVORY PARK TEACHER ACCUSED OF RAPE APPEARS IN COURT
A 37-year-old mathematics teacher from Ivory Park Secondary School, Mr Edward Zunguza, appeared briefly before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 March 2026, facing allegations of rape involving a learner.
Zunguza was remanded in custody and will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on Friday, 13 March 2026, when he is expected to bring a formal bail application.
According to information presented in court, the educator is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old female learner whom he allegedly taught at Ivory Park Secondary School.
It is further alleged that the incident took place in December 2025, after the teacher reportedly offered the learner private lessons at his residential home.
Zunguza was arrested on Wednesday in Birchleigh North by members of Norkem Park SAPS.
Police reportedly located him at his brother’s residence after he allegedly attempted to arrange a meeting with the victim’s parent in an effort to have the case withdrawn by offering money, which the parents allegedly refused.
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that it has initiated internal investigations into the matter.
Authorities have emphasised that the case will now proceed through the legal process, while the department handles the matter administratively.
The case has sparked strong reactions within the Ivory Park community, with learners yesterday taking to the streets demanding accountability and action against educators accused of misconduct.
KAE News will continue to follow the case and provide updates as it develops.
