Learners from Ivory Park Secondary School and JB Matabane Secondary School have taken to the streets, blocking Riverside Road in Ivory Park with stones as protests erupted following the arrest of a maths educator accused of raping a learner.

The protest began on Thursday, 5 March 2026, with learners demanding that more teachers be investigated and arrested for alleged sexual misconduct involving learners.

Traffic in the area has been heavily affected as groups of learners gathered on the road, bringing movement to a standstill.

A learner from Ivory Park Secondary School, who spoke to KAE News on condition of anonymity, claimed that the arrested educator may not be the only teacher involved in inappropriate relationships with learners.

“He is not the only one. We know of teachers who are taking advantage of our sisters and having sexual relationships with them,” the learner alleged.

The allegations have sparked anger among learners, who say they want authorities to investigate all claims of sexual exploitation at schools.

This is a developing story, and KAE News will provide further updates as more information becomes available
