MEC CONDUCTS OVERSIGHT VISIT TO TEMBISA FAILED HOUSING PROJECT

Gauteng MEC for Finance, Nkululeko Dunga, today, Tuesday, 28 July 2026 conducted an oversight visit to the long-delayed Tembisa Extension 25 Human Settlements Housing Project, which has become a symbol of stalled public infrastructure and unfulfilled housing promises.

The visit follows concerns raised by unpaid service providers during the Unpaid Service Providers Imbizo held earlier this month, where the incomplete housing development was highlighted as requiring urgent government intervention and accountability.

During the oversight visit, the MEC inspected the condition of the unfinished project, engaged with affected stakeholders, and assessed the challenges that have delayed its completion.

According to the Gauteng Provincial Government, the visit forms part of efforts to strengthen oversight, improve accountability, and ensure that public infrastructure projects are completed and deliver quality housing to beneficiaries.

The Tembisa Extension 25 housing project, located next to Tembisa Hospital, has remained incomplete for years, leaving many prospective beneficiaries still waiting for homes while contractors and service providers have raised concerns over outstanding payments.

Residents and stakeholders now await government’s next steps and whether the oversight visit will lead to tangible progress in reviving the project.
