MOURNERS GATHER TO HONOUR FALLEN IPTA TREASURER LEFA MATEMANA
Mourners gathered at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Monday, 09 June 2025, to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Teleki Tebnoir ‘Lefa’ Matemana, the 50-year-old Treasurer of the Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA), who was brutally gunned down last week.
Friends, family members, IPTA executives, and community leaders filled the venue in a somber but heartfelt memorial service to celebrate Matemana’s contributions, leadership, and dedication to the taxi industry.
Many remembered him as a committed and humble servant of the people who was just beginning a chapter of leadership in IPTA before his life was tragically cut short.
Matemana was shot multiple times at a petrol station on New Road in Midrand on Wednesday, 04 June 2025, just days after he was elected as Treasurer at the IPTA Annual General Meeting. His sudden death sent shockwaves through the taxi industry and broader community.
Law enforcement has since arrested one suspect linked to the murder, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details surrounding the motive.
KAE News understands that his funeral will take place in his hometown of Burgersfort on Saturday, 14 June 2025. More information will be communicated as arrangements are finalised.
As the community continues to mourn, the memory of Mr. Matemana will live on through the lives he touched and the service he gave.
May his soul rest in peace. 🕊️
