The South African Government, through the Department of Small Business Development, Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), and National Empowerment Fund, has launched an empowering support programme to assist township entrepreneurs and spaza shop owners.
Spaza shop owners can now apply for support worth up to R100 000, aimed at revitalising and growing small informal businesses. This initiative is part of a broader national effort to strengthen local economic participation and uplift township economies.
What’s Included in the R100 000 Package?
✅ R40 000 Grant for purchasing stock
✅ R50 000 Blended Grant/Loan for infrastructure upgrades (e.g., fridges, shelving, point-of-sale tools)
✅ R10 000 Value in business training and digital tools
