GAUTENG ONLINE ADMISSIONS FOR 2027 OPEN ON 5 AUGUST

Parents and guardians of children entering Grade 1 and Grade 8 in 2027 are encouraged to prepare for the Gauteng Online Admissions process, which officially opens at 08:00 on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, and closes at midnight on Friday, 4 September 2026.

The announcement was made by Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, who said the online admissions system remains an important tool for ensuring fair and transparent learner placements across the province.

WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW

Parents must apply online for children entering Grade 1 and Grade 8 in 2027. During the application process, parents are required to:

• Register as a parent or legal guardian.
• Capture the learner’s details.
• Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of five public schools.
• Upload or submit all required supporting documents within seven school days after completing the application.

The department stressed that registering alone does not mean the application is complete. All compulsory steps must be completed before an application is considered valid.

NEW LOGIN DETAILS REQUIRED

Parents who used the online admissions system in previous years should note that new login credentials will be required for the 2027 application process. Previous usernames and passwords will not work.

APPLY EARLY

The MEC encouraged parents not to wait until the last minute to submit applications. Applying early and submitting authentic supporting documents will help reduce delays and improve learners’ chances of being placed at their preferred schools.

Parents are also encouraged to choose schools carefully. Applying to between three and five schools, particularly those within the learner’s feeder zone, increases the likelihood of successful placement.

BEWARE OF SCAMS

The Gauteng Department of Education warned parents not to pay anyone who promises to secure a school placement.

The department said no public school place is for sale, and all assistance provided through the Gauteng Online Admissions System is free of charge. Parents are urged to report any suspected fraud or corruption.

To assist parents, the department has established 48 Walk-In Centres, including district offices, the GDE Head Office and public schools across Gauteng, where officials will help with the admissions process.
