SANRAL has opened applications for its 2026 scholarship programme for South African learners in Grades 8 to 12. Applications close on 30 September 2026.

SANRAL

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has opened applications for its 2026 scholarship programme, providing financial support to South African learners in Grades 8 to 12 who meet the programme’s eligibility requirements.

The scholarship programme is aimed at helping young learners access educational opportunities and develop the skills they need to succeed. Learners from different subject streams are encouraged to apply, as the programme is open to learners irrespective of their subject choices.

WHAT DOES THE SANRAL SCHOLARSHIP COVER?

Successful applicants may receive financial and educational support covering a range of school-related expenses.

The SANRAL scholarship covers:

  • School fees and boarding school fees, where applicable
  • School and sports uniforms, where applicable
  • Books and stationery
  • Reputable school transport, where applicable
  • Extra lessons for Mathematics and Science only
  • Registration costs, where applicable
  • Access to SANRAL’s Wellness Programme

Learners with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.

WHO CAN APPLY?

To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be registered at an endorsed South African school
  • Be applying for Grades 8 to 12
  • Have achieved a minimum overall academic average of 60%
  • Have a total household income of less than R550,000 per year
  • Complete the online application in full
  • Upload all required supporting documentation

Applicants should ensure that all information provided is accurate and that all required documents are submitted with their applications.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Applications opened on 1 July 2026 and will close on 30 September 2026.

Learners and parents or guardians are encouraged not to wait until the final day to submit applications, particularly because applications must be completed online and supporting documents must be uploaded.

LIMITED NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

SANRAL says the number of educational funding awards available is limited and that the number of applications typically exceeds the available awards.

As a result, submitting an application does not guarantee that a learner will receive funding.

SANRAL will only contact successful applicants. If an applicant has not received feedback by 31 January 2027, they should consider their application unsuccessful.

Due to the high volume of applications received, SANRAL says it will not provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants and no further individual communication will be sent regarding unsuccessful applications.
