On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, presided over a ceremony to confer rank insignia on 35 newly promoted members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) within the Ekurhuleni District.

Of the 35 newly promoted members, two (2) were promoted to the rank of Colonel, twenty (20) to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and thirteen (13) to the rank of Captain.

The newly promoted officers will assume leadership and management responsibilities across Visible Policing, Detective Services and Human Resource Management, where they are expected to strengthen operational effectiveness and contribute towards improved service delivery.

Addressing the newly promoted members, Major General Sithole congratulated them on their achievements and reminded them that promotion comes with greater responsibility and accountability. She emphasised that commanders are expected to lead by example, maintain discipline and ensure that members under their command perform their duties professionally and diligently.

Major General Sithole reminded the officers that leadership is a responsibility entrusted to them and encouraged them to embrace their new roles with humility and purpose.

“To whom much is given, much is required. Prepare your minds for the new office and go out there and do better,” she said.

She further cautioned the newly promoted members not to allow rank to define their character, but rather to regard it as a responsibility to serve. She encouraged them to lead from the front, support their members, hold members accountable and take responsibility for the performance of their respective environments.

Major General Sithole also emphasised the importance of fairness, integrity and unity, encouraging the newly promoted commanders to support one another as they enter their new working environments. She reminded them never to lose sight of the fundamental reason they joined the Service to serve and protect the people of South Africa.

Addressing those who will assume responsibilities as Station Commanders, Major General Sithole stressed that their leadership must translate into tangible improvements in policing.

“Where you are going as Station Commanders, make sure that crime goes down,” she emphasised.

She further encouraged the newly promoted members to remain grounded in their faith, to seek God’s guidance in carrying out their responsibilities and to work collectively towards making Ekurhuleni a safer and better district.

In closing, Major General Sithole called upon the newly promoted commanders to uphold the values of the SAPS and ensure that the organisation continues to serve communities with professionalism, integrity, dedication and pride.
