33 UBERS IMPOUNDED AT OR TAMBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Taxi Task Team in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies impounded 33 Uber taxis for failing to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 in Kempton Park.
EMPD Taxi Task Team with the assistance of Gauteng Traffic Police conducted inspections for compliance in which all 33 vehicles were found to operate without permits and failing to have permits inside the vehicle.
Officers immediately impounded all 33 Uber taxis that were taken to Benoni police pound.
The EMPD appeals to Uber drivers and owners to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy with the correct documentations to operate as public transport.
The main aim of these operations is to address compliance with public transport laws and regulations.
