The Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, where members elected a new leadership to steer the association forward.

Mr. Vusi Macheke who was the previous Vice Chairman was elected unopposed as the new Chairman of IPTA, succeeding the late Buti Johannes Mkonza, who passed away in November 2024.

In his inaugural address, Macheke expressed  gratitude to the IPTA members for their trust and pledged to honour the legacy of his predecessor.

“If you see anything wrong, do not be shy to speak up and correct it,” said Macheke, emphasizing transparency and accountability. He committed to strengthening IPTA’s relationship with the community of Ivory Park, acknowledging their continued support during challenging times.

Chairman of the Santaco Greater Johannesburg Region, Mr. Veli Thwala, also addressed the AGM, stressing the importance of unity within the leadership.

“Without unity, you will not be able to fight the real challenges facing the industry,” he warned. Thwala called for peace in Ivory Park and encouraged open dialogue as a way of resolving internal conflicts.

“Let us not resort to killing one another, talk things through,” he said.
