PICK N PAY BUSY CORNER HONOURS MANDELA DAY WITH 67 MINUTES OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
In the true spirit of Mandela Day, Pick n Pay Busy Corner commemorated their 67 minutes by giving back to the community with heartfelt action and long-term commitment.
For the past four (4) years, Pick n Pay Busy Corner has built a strong relationship with The Love of God Disability Foundatio, a centre that supports children with special needs in Ivory Park.
What began as a once-off initiative has now become an ongoing partnership rooted in care, compassion, and development.
This year, the team from Pick n Pay rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty — quite literally — as they continued their support of the school’s food garden. Spinach, onions, and tomatoes were planted, all nurtured by a full irrigation system donated by the store in 2023. The garden not only feeds the children and staff but also teaches valuable skills in agriculture and sustainability.
Beyond gardening, walls of the school were given a fresh coat of paint, brightening up the environment and making it more welcoming for the learners. Additionally, essential groceries such as rice, sugar, and other food items were donated, ensuring that the school is well-equipped for the weeks ahead.
Assistant Manager at Pick n Pay Busy Corner, Eric Nyiko Simango, said:
“ What we are doing is what Nelson Mandela would have wanted us to do. He had a strong love for the young ones he would have liked us to continue. We are not planning to stop anytime. For us this is a way of giving back to the community which is supporting us every day.”
This act of kindness and continuity embodies the legacy of Nelson Mandela — one of unity, service, and love. As the Busy Corner team left with hands dirty but hearts full, it was clear: the real harvest is in the hope they help grow.
