PROTECT TRANSFORMERS THIS WINTER
With loadshedding currently suspended and electricity demand on the rise this winter, Eskom is calling on communities to play their part in protecting the electricity grid by avoiding illegal connections and energy theft.
These unlawful practices place immense pressure on the power network and often lead to transformer overloads, equipment failures, and in some cases, explosions and prolonged outages.
To avoid this, Eskom has highlighted the urgent need for residents to purchase electricity only from accredited vendors and regularise their electricity usage through legal means.
Eskom warns that illegal activities impacting its infrastructure can and should be reported to the Eskom Crime Line at 0800 112 722 or via WhatsApp on 081 333 3323.
Eskom will provide its next energy update on Friday, 23 May 2025, or sooner if there are significant developments.
“We urge all residents to take responsibility this winter to ensure power supply stability,” Eskom said in a statement.
