44 MURDERS IN 3 MONTHS REPORTED IN IVORY PARK
Ivory Park Police Station has recorded a worrying increase in murder cases, even as South Africa and Gauteng show an overall decline in violent crime, according to the latest SAPS crime statistics.
The figures cover the period 1 July to 30 September 2025, known as the second quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year.
MURDER CASES ON THE RISE
During this three-month period, Ivory Park Police Station recorded 44 murder cases, up from 33 cases during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 11 murders.
As a result, Ivory Park is ranked 14th nationally and 3rd in Gauteng (after Jeppe and Orange Farm) amongst police stations with the highest number of murder cases.
This increase is particularly concerning because national murder figures dropped by more than 11% and Gauteng also recorded fewer murders overall during the same period.
IVORY PARK MOVING AGAINST THE TREND
While many police stations in Gauteng showed improvements, Ivory Park moved in the opposite direction, with murders and violent contact crimes increasing.
Crime experts point out that most murders are linked to:
-
Arguments and personal disputes
-
Alcohol and substance abuse
-
Crimes taking place in residential areas and public spaces
-
The use of firearms
These factors are common in densely populated communities such as Ivory Park.
The latest statistics highlight that Ivory Park remains one of Gauteng’s most violent crime hotspots. While national crime trends show improvement, local realities tell a different story.
