POLICE OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED DURING BUSINESS ROBBERY AT BIRCH ACRES

A police officer from Norkem Park SAPS has been shot and killed during a business robbery at Pick n Pay Square in BirchAcres, near McDonald’s, on Wednesday evening, 29 October 2025.

According to preliminary information, the officer and his colleagues were responding to an active robbery at Pick n Pay and Pick n Pay Liquor when they came under fire. The officer was reportedly shot while still inside the police van as the team approached the scene.

The armed suspects fled the scene shortly after the shooting. Emergency services were called to the scene, where the officer was declared deceased upon arrival.

Authorities are also still investigating another recent police killing that occurred on 05 October 2025 at Swazi Inn in Ivory Park, where another officer lost their life. No arrests have been made in either case.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) also known as the Hawks is probing the latter case.
