R20 MILLION WORTH OF COCAINE SEIZED ON A PLOT IN MIDRAND
A crime intelligence-driven operation has led to the discovery of R20 million worth of cocaine at a smallholding in Blue Hills, Midrand.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the operation took place on Tuesday evening, 28 October 2025, and involved a multidisciplinary team comprising members from Crime Intelligence Head Office, the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit, SAPS Johannesburg K9 Unit, and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC).
The team was acting on information about drugs being stored at the property. Further investigation revealed that the cocaine had been smuggled into South Africa from a neighbouring country and was destined for Cape Town.
Police discovered the 80 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a storage room on the premises. A 56-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the plot, was arrested on the scene.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
