After almost a week without water during the first phase of Rand Water’s maintenance on the 13th of December 2025, there is good news for residents of KAE (Ivory Park, Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park) and surrounding areas.

Johannesburg Water has confirmed that KAE will NOT be affected by the final phase of Rand Water’s planned maintenance, scheduled to take place from Tuesday, 6 January 2026 at 04:00 until Thursday, 8 January 2026 at 08:00.

WHAT IS THIS MAINTENANCE ABOUT?

Rand Water is carrying out the third and final phase of its long-term maintenance programme. The work is aimed at:
• Improving the reliability of the bulk water system
• Strengthening infrastructure capacity
• Reducing unplanned water outages in the future
• Improving water security across Gauteng

WILL KAE BE AFFECTED?

NO.
Johannesburg Water has advised that the areas expected to be impacted during this phase are mainly in other parts of Johannesburg, including Meadowlands, Doornkop, Braamfischerville, Roodepoort Deep, and Fleurhof.

Communities in KAE, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, and most of Midrand are not listed among the affected areas for this phase.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

During the first phase of maintenance, many Midrand communities went a full week without water as reservoirs dropped to critically low levels and systems took time to recover. This time, Johannesburg Water says:
• Reservoir levels have been managed in advance
• Response teams are on standby
• Water tankers will be deployed where needed
• Systems are better prepared to limit disruptions

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MAINTENANCE

Johannesburg Water has cautioned that once maintenance ends on 8 January 2026, the system will still need 3 to 5 days to fully recover in affected areas.

However, since KAE is not impacted, residents should not experience the same water outages seen during the previous phase.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Even though KAE is not expected to be affected:
• Save water where possible
• Report leaks immediately
• Follow official updates from Johannesburg Water.

KAE News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if anything changes.
