Residents in Ivory Park Ext 2 have received a response from the ward councillor as water shortages continue due to low reservoir levels.
Ward 79 Councillor Responds to Ivory Park Water Crisis
Residents of Ivory Park Ext 2, who have gone more than two months without water, have received a response from Ward 79 Councillor, Cllr Thompson Maluleka, following queries raised by KAE News.
According to the councillor, Johannesburg Water (JW) attended a public meeting with community members on Thursday, 19 March 2026, where they provided an update on the ongoing water challenges affecting the area.
Johannesburg Water indicated that reservoir levels have not yet fully recovered, which continues to impact high-lying areas in the ward, including Ivory Park Ext 2.
To try and manage the situation, water supply is currently being restricted daily between approximately 14:00 and 04:00. This is intended to allow reservoir levels to build up to between 9% and 15%, which is the minimum required for water to reach higher areas.
In a notable admission, Cllr Maluleka stated that he is also directly affected by the crisis:
“I’m also part of the same challenge — I last had water on the 27th of January.”
Johannesburg Water has further indicated that they are planning an early shutdown next week (Tuesday into Wednesday) in an effort to improve reservoir recovery.
A public meeting was held at Eqinisweni High School where Johannesburg Water presented a report and engaged with residents through a question-and-answer session.
Despite these updates, residents continue to express frustration over prolonged dry taps, inconsistent water tanker services, and ongoing billing for water that is not being received.
KAE News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
