JMTTA ANNOUNCES TAXI FARE INCREASES
The Johannesburg Midrand Tembisa Taxi Association (JMTTA) has announced new taxi fare increases that will take effect from Monday, 04 May 2026.
KEY ROUTE INCREASES
Some of the updated fares include:
- Sangweni to Johannesburg – R29 (up from R26)
- Sangweni to Alberton – R33 (up from R30)
- Sangweni to Bara – R33 (up from R30)
- Sangweni to Vosloorus – R32 (up from R30)
- Sangweni to Serengeti – R21 (up from R18)
- Sangweni to Vereeniging – R90 (up from R80)
- Sangweni to Witbank – R160 (up from R150)
- Sangweni to Bronkhorstspruit – R110 (up from R100)
- Sangweni to Sokhuluma – R130 (up from R120)
- Johannesburg to Meadowdale – R22 (up from R20)
- Johannesburg to Sebenza – R21 (up from R18)
- Johannesburg to Edenvale – R21 (up from R18)
- Johannesburg to Isando – R23 (up from R20)
- Johannesburg to Verina – R170 (up from R160)
- Johannesburg to Bronkhorstspruit – R120 (up from R110)
- Serengeti to Tembisa – R21 (up from R18)
- Serengeti to Alexandra – R21 (up from R18)
- Swazi Inn to Johannesburg – R28 (up from R25)
- Oakmore to Serengeti – R11 (up from R8)
- Phomolong to Johannesburg – R29 (up from R26)
- Mayibuye to Johannesburg – R29 (up from R26)
- Elandsfontein to Bara – R28 (up from R25)
Long-distance routes have also increased:
- Sangweni to Verina – R140 (up from R130)
- Sangweni to Witbank – R160 (up from R150)
Most fare increases range between R2 and R10, depending on the route distance.
This announcement comes as multiple taxi associations across Midrand, Tembisa, Ivory Park and surrounding areas implement fare adjustments, highlighting the pressure of rising fuel prices and operating costs on the transport industry.
Commuters are encouraged to take note of the new fares and plan their travel budgets accordingly from 04 May 2026.
