The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team has recovered a stolen vehicle in Ivory Park, underscoring ongoing concerns about high levels of hijacking in the area.
The recovery took place on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, while EMPD officers were conducting routine crime prevention patrols.
VEHICLE TRACKED TO IVORY PARK
According to EMPD, officers received intelligence from a vehicle tracking company regarding a silver-grey Hyundai Tucson that had been reported stolen in the Buccleuch area.
Using GPS coordinates provided by the tracking company, officers followed the signal to Ivory Park, where the vehicle was found abandoned.
No suspects were found at the scene, and the vehicle was recovered without further incident.
The recovery comes amid troubling crime statistics for the area. According to the latest SAPS crime statistics, Ivory Park Police Station was ranked 8th in Gauteng and 14th nationally for carjacking (hijacking) cases.
