The City of Joburg’s much-publicized High-Impact Service Delivery Operation made its way to Kaalfontein yesterday, 14 October 2025, bringing together officials from Johannesburg Water, JRA, City Power, and JMPD.

The operation focused on cleaning up streets, fixing infrastructure, and enforcing by-laws including around Yarona Shopping Centre, opposite the Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre (MPC).

During the operation, JMPD officers removed and confiscated goods from informal traders who were selling on pavements and obstructing traffic and pedestrian movement. Authorities also noted that some traders were not using the designated stalls correctly, with some operating directly across the road instead.

While the cleanup brought a brief sense of order, by this morning, it was back to business as usual traders had returned to the same spots, and the usual hustle had resumed.

Meanwhile, city officials also took note of ongoing road safety improvements by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), which repainted faded road markings and patched sections of roads in Ivory Park, Ebony Park, and Kaalfontein.

The Kaalfontein MPC project was also highlighted, with City representatives acknowledging its progress and importance to the community.

As one resident put it:

“They come, they clean, they go and we go back to normal.”

The question remains will the changes from the High-Impact Service Delivery Operation last, or was it just another election strategy campaign?
