EBONY PARK PROTESTS TO CONTINUE

Protest action is set to continue on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, following a total shutdown in Ebony Park on Tuesday. Demonstrators blocked all entrances and exits with rubble and burning tyres, demanding answers from the City of Johannesburg over ongoing water cuts.

KAE News understands that Ivory Park and Kaalfontein residents are preparing to join the protest, as they too have been battling prolonged water shortages. Johannesburg Water has confirmed that the President Park Reservoir, which supplies these areas, remains critically low.

Schools Disrupted
Local schools have been severely affected, with many closing early or sending pupils home around 11am due to the lack of water. Parents say the crisis is robbing their children of a proper education.

Police Deployed
Public Order Police were deployed to monitor the situation as tensions escalated.

City Leadership Absence
Mayor Dada Morero was scheduled to attend a service delivery blitz on Tuesday but failed to show up, angering residents further. Johannesburg MMC for Infrastructure Services Jack Sekwaila, who was in nearby Ivory Park, had to abandon his service delivery programme due to safety concerns.

Tensions Spread to Themba Khoza
In Themba Khoza, residents also embarked on protest action, blocking Republic Road over electrification issues. The Mayor was expected to provide feedback to the community but was again a no-show.

Shops Closed, Situation Volatile
Most schools and shopping centres in the area remained closed on Tuesday out of fear of looting. The atmosphere remains tense and volatile across KAE.
