The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have stepped in to address serious challenges at JB Matabane Secondary School in Ivory Park.

On Wednesday, 27 August 2025, the EFF Deputy Chairperson and Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Fighter Phillip Makwala, together with the newly elected Subregional Chairperson and City of Johannesburg PR Councillor, Fighter Klaas Seerane, conducted an oversight visit to the school following calls for intervention by concerned parents and the school management.

The school has been plagued by alarming incidents of student misconduct, including violent altercations and reported stabbing incidents, which have disrupted normal learning. Parents and staff also raised concerns about certain subjects not being taught since March due to teacher absenteeism.

A follow-up meeting between the EFF, the School Management Team (SMT), and the District Education Office has been scheduled for Monday, 01 September 2025. The goal is to urgently address the issues of safety, discipline, and teaching shortages, ensuring that every learner at JB Matabane has access to a conducive environment for learning.

The EFF has committed itself to monitoring progress closely until the school is stabilised.
