Project 20K: Government Opens 20,000 Internship Opportunities for Unemployed Graduates Nationwide

The Department of Employment and Labour has officially launched Project 20K, an exciting new initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment by offering 20,000 internship opportunities across South Africa.

The programme runs for the 2025 – 2027 financial years and invites qualifying unemployed graduates to apply for various internship positions in both public and private sector institutions.

Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of R7,860 and will be placed on a 24-month contract, gaining valuable workplace experience in their respective fields.

Who Can Apply?

Project 20K is open to:

  • South African citizens who are unemployed and seeking workplace experience

  • Graduates who have not previously participated in any internship programme

  • Individuals who hold a matric certificate and a relevant post-school qualification

Preference will be given to South African youth, persons with disabilities, and individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Project 20K is a step towards empowering young South Africans with real opportunities to enter the workforce, gain skills, and contribute to the country’s economy,” said the Department of Employment and Labour.

  3. If you’re already registered, simply log in

  4. Search for “Project 20K” in the search box

  5. Opportunities near your location will appear — apply directly online
