The South African National Defence Force has opened applications for the Military Skills Development Programme. Young South Africans aged 18–26 are encouraged to apply for this 2-year training opportunity.
SANDF Military Skills Development Programme (2-Year Contract)
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is inviting young South Africans to apply for the Military Skills Development (MSD) Programme.
This is a 2-year contract training opportunity for youth interested in a career in the military and national service.
About the Programme
During the first year, recruits receive:
- Basic military training
- Specialised functional training within their chosen Service (Army, Air Force, Navy or Military Health Service)
During the second year, members are deployed to different military units where they:
- Apply their training
- Gain practical work experience
- Develop discipline and leadership skills
- Work in a professional environment
Minimum Requirements
- South African citizen (no dual citizenship)
- 18 – 22 years old (with Grade 12)
- 18 – 26 years old (with 3-year tertiary qualification)
- APS score 18 or higher (excluding Life Orientation)
- No criminal record or pending cases
- Meet SANDF medical and fitness requirements
- No visible tattoos when in uniform
Applicants will undergo:
- Medical examination
- Drug testing
- Psychometric evaluation
(Maths & Physical Science required for specialised fields such as aviation and technical musterings.)
