SAPS has warned women in Kempton Park and Rhodesfield after four women’s bodies were discovered in the area over approximately two months.
POLICE WARN WOMEN AFTER FOUR BODIES FOUND IN KEMPTON PARK AREA IN TWO MONTHS
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a warning to women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, following the discovery of the bodies of four (4) women over a period of approximately two months.
The latest body was discovered on Saturday evening.
According to preliminary information gathered by detectives, the cases have raised serious concerns due to similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The women were reportedly found half naked and with visible bruising, while the locations where the bodies were discovered are within the same area vicinity.
POLICE HAVE NOT CONFIRMED A SERIAL KILLER
SAPS has not confirmed that the deaths are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.
Police are, however, treating the cases seriously and have intensified investigations to establish whether there is a connection between the incidents.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner to establish a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases.
The team will include detectives from specialised units, including the Murder and Robbery Unit and Investigative Psychology Unit, alongside other relevant resources.
The task team will be led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo, who has been tasked with ensuring that all possible investigative avenues are pursued.
WARNING TO WOMEN
SAPS is urging women in Kempton Park and surrounding areas to exercise extreme caution, particularly when walking or exercising alone.
Women are advised to:
- Avoid walking or running alone in isolated areas.
- Stay away from secluded spaces where possible.
- Remain alert to their surroundings.
- Travel or exercise in groups where possible.
- Report suspicious people, vehicles or activity to police.
Residents, motorists, security personnel and others who may have witnessed suspicious activity around Rhodesfield and surrounding areas are also urged to come forward.
SAPS says it will not wait for further incidents before taking decisive action and has mobilised specialised resources to establish exactly what happened.
