MAYIBUYE SECONDARY SCHOOL LEARNERS PROTEST OVER DIRTY TOILETS

Learners at Mayibuye Secondary School staged a protest outside the school on Monday, 19 January 2026, raising serious concerns about dirty and unhygienic toilet facilities on the school premises.

Holding placards with messages such as “TOILETS ARE DIRTY”, learners said the condition of the toilets poses a health risk and creates an unsafe learning environment. According to learners on the ground, the sanitation facilities have deteriorated to a point where they can no longer be used with dignity.

As a result of the protest, no schooling took place on the day.

KAE News attempted to contact the school leadership, the School Governing Body (SGB), and the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) for comment. However, no response was received at the time of publishing.

The protest highlights ongoing concerns around school infrastructure and basic services, particularly sanitation, which directly impacts learner health, attendance, and academic performance.

There will be no schooling at the school until further notice. Stakeholders will be meeting on Wednesday on a way forward.
