EXPECT HEAVY DELAYS COMING BACK HOME
Motorists are advised to expect heavy delays and temporary road closures across Gauteng this weekend.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), together with Gauteng Traffic Police, SAPS, EMPD, JMPD and TMPD will conduct a major joint traffic operation on Friday, 24 October and Saturday, 25 October 2025.
The coordinated operation aims to enhance road safety and enforce traffic compliance ahead of the festive season.
It will lead to rolling road closures, lane restrictions, and intermittent disruptions on several major highways and inner-city routes.
Affected Areas:
• City of Tshwane
• City of Johannesburg
• City of Ekurhuleni
Major Routes Impacted:
• National & Regional Routes: N1, N3, N12, M1, R21, R24, R512
• Urban Roads: Rand Show Road, Rivonia Road, Grayston Drive, Melrose Boulevard, Corlett Drive, Oxford Road, Jan Smuts Avenue, Nasrec Road, Golden Highway, and others.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use alternative routes where possible, such as M57 (instead of R21) and Beyers Naudé Drive (instead of R512).
The RTMC says the operation is part of ongoing efforts to promote safer roads, reduce congestion, and enforce compliance with traffic laws.
Expect heavy delays, especially during peak afternoon hours. If you’re travelling home from work or weekend activities, consider leaving earlier or using side roads to avoid congestion hotspots.
