The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is pleased to announce that the Ivory Park Swimming Pool Complex is a step closer to opening its doors to the public.

The facility, developed as part of the City of Johannesburg’s commitment to expanding social infrastructure, has successfully completed its water and electricity connections.

The final phases of work are now underway. These include completing the bulk sewer connection for the ablution facilities, testing the pumps, chlorinating and balancing the pool water, and preparing the facility for handover through final cleaning and quality checks.

Once open, the Ivory Park Swimming Pool Complex will serve as a vital social and recreational hub for the greater Midrand community, including Kaalfontein, Ebony Park and surrounding neighbourhoods.

With an Olympic-style swimming pool, a splash pool, grandstand seating for spectators, and eco-friendly features such as solar water heating, water harvesting systems, grey-water recycling, and waterless toilets, the facility is designed to promote both community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

“This project was among those that had experienced delays. Following our appointment as the new management, we prioritised addressing the challenges, including the resolution of all outstanding town planning matters. This has enabled us to ensure that the pool is opened, in line with our commitment to the residents of Ivory Park, who have long been impacted by the absence of water and electricity connections,” said JDA CEO, Mr Themba Mathibe.

“For us as the JDA, this projects is about more than just building a pool; it’s about creating inclusive spaces that uplift communities, foster healthier lifestyles, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our city,” he noted

The Ivory Park Swimming Pool Complex adds to the City’s network of more than 50 public pools across Johannesburg’s seven regions and forms part of a broader strategy to redress historic infrastructure backlogs while promoting safe and vibrant neighbourhoods.

The JDA looks forward to the official handover and the positive impact the facility will have in bringing people together, creating opportunities for recreation, and supporting the City’s vision of a more liveable, resilient Johannesburg.
