PRESIDENT PARK RESERVOIR UNDER STRAIN, WATER CUTS CONTINUE
Residents in Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park, and Ivory Park (KAE) have faced an unreliable water supply this past week, with Johannesburg Water confirming that interventions at the President Park Reservoir remain in place.
According to Johannesburg Water, the reservoir is showing signs of recovery overnight, but supply is still under pressure due to reduced inflows and very high demand. This is directly prolonging the recovery period, resulting in inconsistent water supply across many communities in KAE.
Daily Interventions
As part of its recovery plan, Johannesburg Water is closing the President Park Reservoir every night from 20:00 until 06:00 the next morning. These overnight shutdowns are aimed at boosting storage capacity and stabilizing the system.
Impact on Residents
Many households and businesses across KAE have reported intermittent water availability this week, with some areas left completely without water during peak times.
Johannesburg Water has acknowledged the inconvenience and assured residents that it is closely monitoring the situation while responding to bursts, leaks, and prioritizing repairs in affected areas.
The utility has urged residents in lower-lying areas to use water sparingly, as this helps those in higher-lying areas who are more severely affected by the shortages.
Johannesburg Water says further updates will be provided as the system improves or if additional operational changes are required.
